International Business Machines pushes for transparent development in enterprise AI

At the technology summit, IBM's Cox delivered a persuasive rationale for open innovation in enterprise generative AI. Cox, VP of artificial intelligence systems and head at the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, emphasized the importance of openness in technological advancement, particularly in the current AI landscape.
Cox highlighted the multifaceted essence of accessibility in machine learning, contesting the two-dimensional perception of the idea. He noted the expanding ecosystem of open models from various sources, including tech giants, research centers, and governments.
Nevertheless, he voiced concerns about the nature of transparency in many Large Language Models, pointing out that a number of them offer barely more than a collection of data points without openness in their creation techniques.
